Extend your cycling holiday tour around Cape Town

Extend your Safari cycling tour with a cycling tour in and around Cape Town. There are many possibilities and we adjust the extension depending on what you would like, how many days, and which areas you would like to visit. If you prefer to book your own accommodation and would like to add a single day activity, we offer that option as well.

Day 2: Cape Town City Cycle Tour

Meet your guide at Batter Park V&A at 10 am (a location will be sent to you). It is a quick walk from your accommodation.

On your cycle today you will learn about Cape Town’s rich heritage while riding from the vibrant Waterfront to the bustling inner city, getting up close and personal with the city and its inhabitants. Our guided tour combines the old and the new Cape Town’s urban landscape, with visits of The Castle of Good Hope, Company Gardens, Parliament, St Georges Cathedral, Groote Kerk, Adderley Street and the colourful houses of the Bo-Kaap Cape Malay quarter. We visit the Green Point Stadium, the impressive newly built sports venue that co-hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The newly landscaped Green Point Biodiversity Eco-Park is a must see for green enthusiasts and the Green Point Lighthouse happens to be the oldest working lighthouse in South Africa. View the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island whilst the tour guide regales tales of bygone shipwrecks along the Cape Storms coastline. Led by experienced guides, our bicycle tours are relaxed, interactive and offer you an authentic approach to Cape Town’s cultural legacy and modern-day life.

After lunch you will be transferred to Lions Head for a sunset picnic hike or alternatively take the Cableway car up to Table Mountain and enjoy a plateau walk on top of Table Mountain.

Lions Head hike: moderate 2–3-hour hike that spirals round the 670-meter-high mountain peak, which is part of the Table Mountain National Park. Spectacular views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the City Bowl can be seen as you climb up to the peak.
·       Our hike includes picnic snacks and bottled water with an experienced hiking guide

·       Please advise on any dietary preferences as a picnic hiking snack is included which the hiking guide will carry, but we request guests to bring a small backpack to carry their own bottled water provided. Please wear closed shoes with good grip and suitable weather gear ie sunscreen, hats, or rain jackets.

OR

Table Mountain Plateau walk: Western Table to Maclears Beacon return: 2-hour easy walk from Cableway station on Western Table to Maclears Beacon (weather dependent). The Table Mountain Walk is an additional 80 Euro per person.

Your guide will organise tickets and then proceed with you up Table Mountain in the aerial cable-way. This can take up to 60 people at a time and does a full rotation enabling guests to enjoy 360-degree views of Cape Town, Lions Head and the Mountain itself. Once on top we get away from the groups and meander along to Maclears Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain. This pleasant walk across the flat-topped Table plateau overlooking the city passes through some marshy frog breeding areas with interesting vegetation.

Day 3: Atlantic Cycle
Your guide will meet you either at your hotel or our office, ensuring a tailored experience. Glide along the stunning Atlantic beachfront, passing through the luxurious neighbourhood of Seapoint, Clifton, Camps Bay, and Llandudno. Conquer the iconic Suikerbossie, a renowned segment of the Cape Cycle Tour, before descending to Hout Bay and the base of Chapmans Peak Drive. This coastal route offers breathtaking panoramas linking Hout Bay and Noordhoek, captivating cyclists and sightseers alike. Brace yourself for a fulfilling ascent to the peak, where you'll be rewarded with an awe-inspiring panorama of Cape Town and Hout Bay Harbour. You have the choice of two thrilling routes: a 58km return journey via Chapmans Peak or an 89km loop that extends through Noordhoek to the historic coastal treasure of Simonstown. Various route variations are available and can be discussed with your guide on the day on how little or as much cycling you would like to do.

Day 4: Cape Point Cycle

After breakfast we travel to the Cape Peninsula section of the Table Mountain National Park. Once in the reserve, guests have the option of doing a 25 km – 60 km bike ride or more along undulating roads leading down to the Cape of Good Hope, the most South-Westerly corner on the African continent. Enjoy a leisurely hike from Cape of Good Hope to Cape Point, making the legend of the renowned “Cape of Storms” come alive.

Wildlife can be seen amongst the unique vegetation of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Relax and enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the many pristine white beaches, or opt for lunch at the Two Oceans restaurant/Harbour House, with spectacular views over False Bay. We return to Cape Town via the Atlantic coast and travel via Chapman’s Peak to Hout Bay, Llandudno and Camps Bay.

(Additional extra: Sea Kayaking. Guests can opt to add a 2-hour sea kayaking to view the penguins at Boulders Beach as part of the full day Cape Point tour. We paddle every day of the year from Simonstown, weather permitting. The winter months are often wonderful for paddling because they have more calm windless days than summer. The daily scheduled trip leaves at 8:30 am in the summer season, 9:00 am in the winter season.)
